THE letter to Santa

About a week ago, Helen came with me to the post office to mail some Christmas gifts. She noticed a mailbox that said "Letters to Santa". She decided that she would like to write a letter to Santa and bring it to the post office to put in this special mailbox. (I thought it would be a great opportunity to get her to practice writing her letters!)

"Dear Santa - I want a Barbie. Love, Helen"

Helen also included a few special drawings in her envelope to Santa.

Addressed and ready to drop off at the post office!

had to use the cell phone camera - battery died on my regular camera - ugh! perfect timing!

Helen puts the letter in the mailbox. (I stepped up to the counter to ask the postman what exactly happened to these letters - he said to be sure and include an address because Santa WILL answer her letter! - pretty cool, huh?)

Guess what? The letter arrived from Santa TODAY! I wish I could have captured the look on Helen's face when she saw the letter in the mail pile today. I read the return address to her and it said "North Pole" --- she said "Wow!" ----welll it was post marked from Grand Rapids :) such a neat thing for her. After reading the letter, Helen told me that she was going to put some cookies in her hand tomorrow night while she was sleeping so Santa could smell them and come upstairs to get the cookies. She said that she would feel him reaching for the cookies and she would reach up to give Santa a big hug and kiss! I told her that Santa always stays downstairs to deliver gifts and ONLY comes when all the kids are asleep!
