Donner Lake Triathlon Festival Family Race Report

Donner Lake Triathlon Festival Family Race Report

I'm calling this a family race report because everyone in my family participated in some sort of race on the weekend of July 23 at Donner Lake.  I am also proud to say that all of us made the podium!  A family that races together, stays together.

No race prep is complete without taking the time to make sure your bike is clean and ready.  The kids cleaned up their bikes on Thursday.
Packet pick-up.  Jillian's first open water triathlon!
Helen and Jayden's first open water triathlon too!
Nature's Bakery Fig Bars to keep the hunger away!

All packed up and ready to race!

Donner Lake is absolutely beautiful!

Saturday morning sunrise - just before the Sprint Distance Tri Start

I did the open water 2.4 mile swim just before the kid's race started.  I was very happy to come away with the overall female spot  (Wetsuit Division) and not too far behind the overall male.  It was a great training opportunity for me and swimming in Donner Lake was amazing.  As the sun rose, the rays looked like a disco ball light in the water.  I am proud to represent Team Freeplay and thankful for the opportunity to participate in a Big Blue Adventure Race.  It was really nice to participate in a race weekend that had something for everyone - Open Water Swim (varying distances), Sprint Tri, Kid's Tri, Olympic Distance, and 70.3 Distance.
