We've enjoyed PERFECT weather this fourth of July weekend..... and had one of our toughest training weekends so far in preparation for our Ironman Boulder in ONE MONTH!! yikes!
Friday, Ross did his 6.5 hour ride and 30 minute brick run while I participated in the neighborhood garage sale. After Ross got back - I took off for my 2 hour 15 minute run that I missed on Thursday morning due to the rain (yes, I wimped out and decided not to run for 2 hours in the pouring rain). I got up super early on Saturday morning and started my 6.5 hour ride on the trainer in the basement --- I had to be done by 1:45 so Ross could get to the pool for his 1.5 hour swim. I can't believe I lasted 4 hours on the trainer in the basement!!!!!!! I really believe that Ironman triathlon training is more mental than physical :) There were a few moments on my trainer that I thought it would be nice to go and curl up on the carpeting upstairs and take a nap! After 4 hours on the trainer, I grabbed the rest of my fuel and headed out on the road for the last 2.5 hours of my ride ---- then came back and ran 6 miles.... one of those miles Jillian rode her bike next to me :) Showed and rested for about 30 minutes (well, didn't rest because I needed to eat something and then start the laundry for the day!). Then headed to the pool for my 1.5 hour swim (On Saturday, I was just a few miles short of a real Ironman!). I needed to do the swim Saturday because our pool is closed on Sundays.... and we had to take the boys to Hillsdale for swim camp. This morning (Sunday) I got up and did my scheduled 1 hour 15 minute run ---- it was a slower run for me ... but a beautiful morning for a run --- I kept telling myself that this is what Mile 18 will feel like on my legs during IM Boulder. I also tried to enjoy the crisp air of the early morning (don't get that too often in early July here!) and the stillness that a Sunday morning brings.
After tag-teaming Ross for the last few weeks as we get into the longest swims, bikes, and runs of our Ironman training program, I realize how difficult it is to balance a family and 2 spouses training for big races :) We have less than a month before our Ironman race in Boulder ---- ultimately, I know it's not all about the race, but the journey that takes you to the starting line of the race. I have hopes of redeeming myself in the marathon ---- anything better than a 5:23 marathon will be great! I haven't set my actual pace goal for the marathon portion and that makes me a little nervous (I'm a goal-setter and I don't do very well with the unknown). In my dream world, I would like to run (or jog) the entire marathon .... no sitting on the curb to "gather my thoughts" this time!! But I think I'm going to end up with some sort of run/walk combination ---- maybe 8 min run/1 min walk? I hope to get an idea of my marathon pace over the next few weeks but ultimately know it's going to come down to MIND OVER MATTER in the marathon of the Ironman.
managed to keep a 7:27 overall pace for 18 miles on Friday - yay! ... still need to keep that faster pace in my legs for the Chicago Marathon in October.
fun with garage sale items!
went to Colon on the 4th of July to see the fireworks ---- kids were catching fireflies while we waited for the fireworks to start
someone was lighting lanterns and releasing them before the fireworks
Ross enjoyed a peanut buster parfait before the fireworks :)

kids wore their PJ's to the fireworks --- mostly because I KNEW I would be ready for bed when we got home :)
