Making New out of Old

this has nothing to do with my "New/Old" post - but here's a picture of me dressed us at the Cat in the Hat and reading at the boy's school!
i had these curtains made to fit our windows in Holland. i spent waaaaay more on these curtains than i wanted to but at the time they were necessary to keep out the light in our bedroom and i did not have the time/resources to make my own .... (sidestory - i ordered these curtains within the first week that we arrived in Holland - drove to a store called Hema with 4 jet-lagged kids (one of which was only 5 weeks old) and tried to communate in Dutch the length, width, and type of curtains that i wanted. the store employee did not speak any English and i had taken all my measurements in inches at the house (centimers were the unit of measure that she needed!))
so i brought them back with me and decided to recycle them into curtains for the boys room.

i grabbed some ribbon to tie them back with during the day.... like i said, nothing fancy but completely functional at this point and FREE! :)
another recycling project... i took a crib bedskirt that was ripped a little bit in a few spots and made some curtains for helen's room

i got the pink accent fabric from an Amish fabric store nearby. the curtain rods are actually from our house in Wisconsin.
