bambi

last saturday, a baby deer was born near our house. (the kids have been feeding the deer bread since we arrived - they are deer that belong to the family that we are renting our house from and the deer are kept in a fence just beyond our backyard).

unfortunately we did not actually see the baby deer being born - but found out about it late last week. we knew the mom was going to have babies soon.... yes - i said babies. she had 1 baby last saturday - but still has 1 baby to deliver. ok - so i'm not sure how to explain this one.... i guess i thought that a mom delivered all her babies at once! i haven't had time to look it up on the internet... or ask my uncle ron (an avid deer hunter)... so i must admit - i am a little puzzled by this mystery at the moment.

the kids and i have enjoyed going back to see the baby deer. the baby does a great job hiding herself in amongst the leaves, sticks, and ground cover. i am amazed that the baby does not stay closer to it's mother.... i am also amazed at how well the baby can walk around.... at just a few days old! the baby was bouncing all around the grounds. can you imagine jillian being able to walk right now?
