Ottertail Lake (got) Chase(d)
Last night, the boys and I ran in the Ottertail Lake Chase 8k. Throughout junior high, high school, and even a few college and post-college days - I've participated in the Ottertail Lake Chase. The 5 mile run used to seem so LONG for me. I was so excited to have the boys participate in the race with me last night - it was their first "long" distance race - they've done a few 5k's but never an 8k. Graham finished in 47 minutes and Jayden wasn't too far behind him. (Jayden forget to start is watch at the beginning of the race). After I finished, I jogged back on the course to find the boys. I ran into Graham first and gave him a high five - he was almost done. I ran back another 1.5 miles to find Jayden. He was doing great! I offered him some water and gave him some encouragement as he ran through to the finish! Being able to finish with him was so special!
The start!
Graham, number 29, on the left and Jayden, number 30, a little bit behind him. I love the smile on Graham's face as he starts the race :)
Graham rounding the corner to the finish!
Jillian helped me accept my awards - I finished 2nd for women and 10th place overall. My time was 34:27 --- a 6:52 average pace. I was in the lead for about the first 3.5 miles, but earlier in the day I had biked 50 miles and did an 8 mile tempo run right after the bike and I was starting to feel it in my legs --- Already keeping a 6:45ish pace when the a girl from NY passed me, I just tried to keep up with her. At the finish line, I found out she ran Boston this spring and finished it in an impressive time of 3:28!

Lucky 13?
Warsaw (Sprint Distance) Tri Race Report
1st place in my Age Group! yay! 6/163 women and 59/700 overall
run pace = 6:52 -- super excited about this time!! run course was 3.8 miles total.
swim = 9:09 -- ugh! I NEED to work on this!
I was quickly reminded this morning about how much I dread the swim portion of a tri --- it's not that I can't swim.... I just don't like the cold water early in the morning, the fact that I can't see 2 inches in front of my face once we start, people bumping into me, and the fact that I cannot seem to calm down my breathing when I start! I've been working on my breathing in the pool about 4 days a week with my Ironman training but trying to put that work to use in the lake doesn't seem to work for me! I miss my big blue guide line! I was really happy with my bike time today (40minutes) - it was a pretty flat course so that helped. I was happy with my run pace of 6:52 --- especially since I forgot to turn on my Garmin as I was getting off the bike to find a satellite. My Garmin finally found a satellite with about 1.8 miles to go! I mentally held it together through the run and I was very happy with that! Using my "fishing" technique of catching the person in front of me. As I started the run, I passed a group of guys and thought to myself "Come on boys! this is only 3 miles! Let's do this!"
ended up finishing LESS than 3 minutes behind Ross :) ---- look out! I may catch you in our half-ironman. :)
getting my Age Group Award :) 1st place --- I was so excited!
I was really nervous when I picked up my number and I was assigned number 13, but I guess it turned out to be lucky for me today. With my first place AG finish - I picked up a free entry to a local Turkey Trot race this fall!
Food for my 100 mile bike ride tomorrow! Bring on the Kal-Tour!

Kona Inspired Contest - Voting June 29 through July 8
I've made it to the final round of the Kona Inspired Contest!
Voting begins on June 29! You can vote EVERY DAY between June 29 and July 8
I will post the link for voting HERE when it is available.
There are 15 people in my group and 2 people will win a spot to compete in the Ironman Kona (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and 26.2 mile run) in October.
Additional information about my entry:
I had intentions of entering the Kona Inspired contest prior to running the Boston Marathon and even wrote down some notes for my video -- but after being a part of the events that followed the Boston Marathon things completely changed for me. As I reflected on the day of the marathon, I realized that I had been given a second chance. Making the video for the contest allowed me to express some of the thoughts and feelings that I had been holding inside of me.

Additional information about my entry:
At Kona, I feel like I would represent the spirit of every mom. I try so hard to juggle my personal athletic goals as well as the goals for my family. This often means waking up at 4:30am to get in my training, hopping in the car all sweaty after a 10 mile run to pick up my daughter from preschool, volunteering in my children's classrooms in my workout gear, or "practicing" my swim transition because I'm running late to pick someone up. It also means staying up late to finish up laundry, dishes, and preparing healthy meals for the next day.
